PLEASE HELP ANNIE!

Annie’s picture has been on our website for a long long time.  She was one of the original dogs that we rescued when we first started Thunder’s Angels.  She stayed with us in foster care for a while as she underwent treatment for heartworm disease and basic obedience training.  When it was time for adoption, Annie received several applications but they all fell through for one reason or another (not getting along with cats, job loss, inadequate fencing, etc) and months passed.  We stuck by her side because we knew she was a special dog (and certainly the smartest we’d ever met!) and we knew that she’d find the right home if given enough time.

Well, recently, Annie did find her perfect home!  She went to live with her new mom, Emily, as a “test run”, sometimes called foster-to-adopt.  Annie bonded with Emily right away and they’d been enjoying daily runs together, rides in the car, and play time in their fenced yard.

 Unfortunately, just when Annie’s adoption was to occur, she was playing catch with some snowballs and jumped too high.  When she landed on her hind leg, it twisted and her upper thigh bone broke.  It was a bad break – really bad.   And it will require more than just a typical cast.  To heal properly, Annie needs expensive surgery that will cost an estimated $2700 and she will probably need physical therapy afterward too.  Incurring this cost while welcoming a new dog into your home can prove to be a daunting task for any family but for Annie’s new mom, a young single woman living on her own, it may be near impossible.   We have waived Annie’s adoption fee to help her but she needs your help too!  Can you donate even $5 to help Annie stay in her perfect forever home that took her so long to find?  Or $25?  Maybe even $100?

Annie is currently hospitalized in a hard cast (and on pain killers) awaiting surgery.  At least $1350 (half of the estimated total) is needed as a deposit before the doctor will operate.  Please send donations directly to:

BOARDING NEEDS FOSTER!

<-- #937 STALLONE

Hi, I’m Stallone, a young male black lab mix.  I'm a bit on the bigger side and don't have a lot of manners....but I have a great personality and would love to cover you in sloppy kisses!   I'll do best with a fenced yard and/or an experienced foster that can help teach me manners to get me ready for adoption.

Right now, I'm in danger of being gassed on Friday, March 5th due to lack of space at the shelter and since I'm a black dog, I don't photograph well which means my chances of making it out alive are very slim.

Thunder's Angels wants to save me but I need a foster home first.

#875 PATTY -->

Hi, I’m a young female boxer/pit mix.  I was found as a stray in the woods and taken to animal control.   I've recently had puppies but no one was able to find them....perhaps they didn't survive the cold winter?

The shelter workers all say I am a great dog and super sweet - one of their favorites!  But I'm scheduled to be gassed on Friday, March 5th due to lack of space at the shelter.

Hi, I’m a young female red nosed pit.  I was found as a stray and taken to the shelter by animal control and I'm really scared here - just look at my big bug eyes.

I'm a sweet dog and I deserve a home of my own but I am already scheduled to be gassed on Friday, March 5th due to lack of space at the shelter.

#903 BRUTUS -->

Hi, I’m a young male pit mix.  I was found running loose and a farmer reported me to animal control....which caused me to end up at this really scary shelter.

The shelter workers all say I am a great dog and very friendly and cuddly with them (I'm even giving kisses in my picture!) but I don't do well with other dogs so I'll need an experience foster home if I'm going to be saved.

I'm scheduled to be gassed on Friday, March 5th due to lack of space at the shelter..... Thunder's Angels wants to save me but I need a foster home first.

Sandy is heartworm positive.  Her treatment prior to adoption will cost about $600 and that doesn't even include any of her boarding, transport, spay, or vaccines.  She really needs a quiet foster home where she can get through treatment but if you can't foster her....can you please donate towards her medical costs?

<-- #849 SANDY

Hi, I’m a young female pit mix.  I was found as a stray and taken to the shelter by animal control and I'm really scared here - I'm so stressed that the fur on my tail has started to fall out.  There are tons of barking dogs around me and it's so frightening that I'm even cowering in my picture.....

I'm a sweet dog and I really warm up once I get outside away from the chaos and fear around here.   Once I'm in a quiet home, I'll do well with patience, love, and some positive reinforcement training -- I have no aggressive tendencies, I'm just scared....and who wouldn't be?  I overheard the warden saying that if I don't find a rescue before Friday, March 5th, I'll be killed in the gas chamber like so many of the other dogs around here.  You'd be scared if you were racing the clock too!

Please.

#841 PEEKA -->

Hi, I’m a young female pit mix.  I was named Piccolina (which means 'tiny' in Italian) but am called Peeka for short.  I'm full grown and I only weigh 35lbs.

I was brought to animal control when my 'family' thought I wasn't a cute fuzzy puppy anymore....so they just dumped me here. I'm a great dog with an amazing temperament but I'm scheduled to be gassed on Friday, March 5th due to lack of space at the shelter.....

<-- #843 MICKEY

Hi, I’m Mickey, a young black lab puppy.  I was dropped at the shelter when my family realized how much work having a puppy really is.  I'm super shy and will do best in a home with other dogs that can show me the ropes and get me used to indoor life.

I'm a sweet dog and I deserve a second chance at life but I am already scheduled to be gassed on Friday, February 26th due to lack of space at the shelter.

#525 VICTOR -->

Hi, I'm a 7 month old pit mix.  My 'family' dropped me at this really scary place when I wasn't a tiny puppy anymore so that I could 'get a new home'....but all I really got was PARVO since they never took the time to vaccinate me :(

When I stopped eating and had bloody diarrhea the shelter staff knew it was parvo virus which is a highly contagious and deadly puppy virus.  North Carolina law mandates that dogs with parvo be removed from the shelter right away – whether “adopted” (aka: taken into rescue) or “euthanized” (aka: suffocated in the gas chamber).   Just minutes before I was supposed to go to the gas chamber, Thunder’s Angels found out my fate and knew that since other rescues weren’t going to step up, they had to save me.   I was pulled from the shelter and taken to the nearest vet hospital for treatment. I’ve only been here one day and already the bill is over $600.  Hospitalization for parvo virus usually takes a week in order for a pup to fully recover – Thunder’s Angels is going to need your help with donations to continue treating me.

Thunder’s Angels is naming me Victor in the hopes that I’ll recover.  Hopefully I’ll be available for a foster home (and then adoption) soon but first I have to beat this bug.

Please HELP SAVE ME by donating....

3/1/10 UPDATE ON VICTOR:

Victor....is a girl!  We found out after she was pulled that we’d gotten the wrong information about her so we’ve renamed her Victoria and her foster family is calling her Vicky for short.   Vicky made it through her parvo treatment but during that time, she suffered from malnutrition (since she was only on IV fluids and was not eating) and was caged at the vet’s office in medical quarantine – because of this, she developed rickets (her bones softened and bent) – she’s getting Calcium and Vitamin D supplements now to help her heal but she’s very emaciated and was neglected prior to being dropped at the shelter.   This poor girl is young but has had very little socialization and has hardened paw pads (she obviously never lived inside before) and yellowed teeth (evidencing a poor diet).  She’s safe and loved in foster care right now and will be available for adoption likely in mid-late April after she’s regained some bone strength and muscle mass and is strong enough to be spayed and start basic obedience training.    We aren’t sure of her age but she’s a very tiny girl – a pocket pit.  At a healthy full grown weight she will probably only be about 30 to 35lbs.

Despite the hardships she’s endured, Vicky is a loving and loyal puppy with an appreciation for life – even if you just look at her, her tail starts wagging vigorously.  All donations to help us pay down her medical care costs are very much appreciated!   Vicky required 2 weeks of intense hospitalization for parvo treatment and a week of medical boarding/quarantine – both of which were expensive.  She still needs all of the regular vetting that we provide dogs prior to adoption.  Without the support of donors, we would be unable to rescue dogs like Vicky – thank you in advance for helping us in our endeavors!

STILL NEEDS FOSTER OR ADOPTER!

<-- CHI CHI (pronounced "Cheech ee") #344a

Hi, I’m ChiChi!  I'm a 2-3 year old male boxer mix.

Thunder's Angels saved me from the gas chamber but I still need a foster home.

I’m a 50lb lovebug.   I adore everyone I meet. I get along with other dogs too and would really like to be in a home with a playmate.  I’m a bit hyper so I do need daily exercise (I know how to jog by your side when leashed).  Once my puppy energy is drained, I’m very eager to learn.  I’m housetrained and already know some basic commands.  I rarely bark and I love cuddling with you on the couch at night.

I can jump fences so I need a home where I can be leash walked regularly.

I have the world’s biggest tongue and am a bit of a messy drinker but other than that, I’m the perfect family dog.   Can you be my foster or adopter?

#506 CHEWY -->

Hi, I’m Chewy!  I'm a young male lab (possibly mixed with Akita), about 50lbs.  Through no fault of my own, my previous 'family' dumped me at a gassing shelter to die -- fortunately, Thunder's Angels saved me before time ran out.  I'm now seeking a foster home and/or adopter.

I'm living in a temporary foster home right now but I can't stay here long - they need the space to save other dogs who are now facing the gas chamber.   Since being here, I've gotten a bath!  And it turns out...I'm black, not brown!  I must have been pretty neglected in my previous life because I had tons of mud and dirt on me, giving me the appearance of a chocolate lab in my shelter picture.

I have a great personality and am very playful, just like a puppy.   I get along with other dogs and children too.  I can jump fences though so I need a home where I will be leash walked regularly and provided plenty of exercise.

Hi, I’m a young female black lab mix.  My 'family' dumped me at a gassing shelter and left me to die.  Fortunately, Thunder's Angels saved me.

I'm living in a temporary foster home right now but I can't stay here long - they need the space to save other dogs who are now facing the gas chamber.

I'm a small girl (only about 35lbs) and I walk well on a leash.  I'm relatively shy so I'll do best in a quiet home without a lot of commotion (no young kids or other dogs).  When given the chance to warm up to you, I become playful and loving.  I'm not high energy dog and will be a great addition to your family!

#532 BLUE MOON -->

Hi, I’m a young female staffie / cattle dog / pit mix.  Thunder's Angels saved me from the gas chamber but now I need a foster home or adopter.

I'm living in a temporary foster home right now but I can't stay here long - they need the space to save other dogs who are now facing the gas chamber.

I don't have any aggression problems but I'm a shy quiet girl so I will do best in a home without loud children or other loud dogs.  I'm fairly low energy and will fit in almost anywhere :)  My coat is a magnificent brindle color and these pictures really don't do me justice - everyone who meets me comments about how beautiful I am!  I'm full grown at about 45 lbs and very gentle - I never jump or play rough.

DESPERATELY NEEDS FOSTER!

 TIGGER (#355a) -->

Hi, I’m Tigger!  I'm a young female Heinz 57 mix --mostly a mix of Lab and Finnish Spitz.  Thunder's Angels saved me from a gassing shelter and placed me into a temporary foster home to save my life.

They soon learned that I was pregnant!  That's probably why my family dumped me at the shelter in the first place - they were too irresponsible to spay me so they just abandoned me.   I've since undergone an abortion/spay surgery and am doing quite well - I'm a much happier dog now!

However, I am also heartworm positive because they weren't just too irresponsible to spay me...they were also too irresponsible to keep me on monthly heartworm preventative.  I'm a very calm dog and I really would like a quiet foster home where I can rest and cuddle with you while I undergo my heartworm treatment (don't worry, heartworm isn't contagious to your dogs - it is transmitted only by mosquitos and the treatment only requires 2 vet visits over 8 weeks - not much to help a sweet girl out, right?).

I get along well with other dogs and probably would be okay with cats too.

Can you HELP SAVE ME?

If you can't foster Tigger, please donate towards her medical costs -- before she's ready for adoption, we will have spent over $1,000 on her.

Your help is appreciated!
