The Babies are Here!
MEET ARIEL!
Ariel is a darling pit mix – she’s so loyal and loving that she bonded with her foster mom instantly – a true testament to the fidelity of this breed!
We estimate that she’s about 3 years old. Ariel was a victim of neglect for her entire puppyhood and young adulthood – her previous ‘family’ left her tied to the end of the chain 24/7 – unspayed, she of course became pregnant. When a neighbor saw this poor girl (still showing no signs of pregnancy) living outside each cold winter night, she begged the owners to surrender Ariel and luckily, they did! This good samaritan brought Ariel into her own home where she was kept warm and cozy and the whole while, puppies were growing inside of her, unbeknownst to the rescuer. Unfortunately, the kind people that rescued Ariel lost their home. Ariel had escaped the neglect but she couldn’t escape the economy :( Once she started ‘showing’ her rescuers had originally planned to let her give birth in their home and find loving families for the babies but just one week before Ariel was due to give birth, they were foreclosed upon – left homeless – with no place for Ariel except their car.
Fortunately, when we heard her story, we were able to step in. The outpouring of support from our volunteers and her wonderful foster family was tremendous. Ariel was taken into our rescue and given a warm bed, plenty of puppy milk, a whelping box, tons of supplies and food and most importantly, Love.
(She's pictured below with her foster mom!)
Ariel was so far along when we took her in that we thought she was going to give birth on her way being transported to us!
Fortunately, she was able to have a chance to settle into her new foster home first and didn’t deliver her puppies until last Thursday night.
There were 9 born but one passed away.
The pups are brindle and black – we suspect they’re boxer mixes.

She also had twins – these little guys are the same gender, have the same markings and came out in the same placenta. This is quite rare and often leads to one pup being too weak to survive – but so far, so good!

They’ve been named by their (5 year old) foster sister, Kirah, and are being called…….Anastasia! Belle! Tinker Bell! Penelope! Serena! Aurora! Cinderella! and Snow White!
Yes, we know they aren’t all girls :)
They love waddling around -- each of them looking like a mini-walrus!

Ariel has been very busy taking great care of her pups. She’s exhausted but we’re trying to give her plenty of breaks. She and the pups will be at the vet today for xrays and a wellness checkup to ensure all is well.

We’ve been spending a fortune on puppy milk. Unfortunately, Mom is being quite picky about what she will or won’t eat – she won’t eat dry food, only wet and she won’t drink water or puppy milk that’s been made of condensed power – she will only take fresh (canned or from a carton) esbilac mixed with pedialyte. She is emaciated – it’s hard to tell from her pictures since her belly is swollen from birthing but all notches in her spine can be seen and nursing the puppies will only increase her caloric need as they continue to grow – so we want to give her anything (healthy) that she will eat. If you can donate any cans of puppy milk or quarts of Pedialyte, please contact us at thundersangels@yahoo.com – at $6 per can and with her drinking about 5 cans per day, it’s quite costly.

Thank you for your continued support!
Updates will follow as the pups grow.
And Ariel will be available for adoption in 12 weeks.....
if her foster mom can bear to part with her by then ;)
