Dogs. What else?

February 4, 2010

Tuesday night we had a plea from another rescue to take some dogs that were passing through our area on transport – they’d been pulled from two gassing shelters that we regularly rescue from but the rescue that saved them was overwhelmed and needed some help.  I offered to try and quickly find some foster homes for the 17 pups in need and I assumed that we could take one or two but before transport arrived at 1:30 AM……. our wonderful volunteers had space for all SEVENTEEN!

Introducing:

Carl, a super sweet Pit mix who apparently has one of the best temperaments a dog can have!  This guy loves EVERYONE, even cats!

3 Jack Russell Terrier pups, dumped as orphans and left to die in the gas chamber at only 6 weeks old :(

Maurice
– a Schipperke mix that looks like a permanent black lab puppy – full grown and weighing in at only 18 lbs.

2 Shepherd/Ridgeback sisters – also orphaned and slated for an inhumane death in the chamber at only 10 weeks :(

And last, but certainly not least:

Midnight!  A loving black lab mix mom and her TEN one-week old American Bulldog pups.  (Midnight is sick right now – she arrived to us puking bile and rejecting her pups.  She needs vet care and esbilac milk – donations are appreciated!)

Many thanks to Linda for making Midnight a whelping box!  And to Natalee, Crystal, Nicole, Kate, and Jen for opening their hearts and homes to these deserving dogs who days ago were just a few of society’s castaways but today are loved members of their (foster) families.

Once everyone is healthy and vetted, you’ll see them on our website as being available for adoption – keep an eye out :)

WE LOVE SHARON HILL!

February 4, 2010

I spent a few hours on Monday night getting paperwork together.   Vaccine histories, intake forms, paper collars to ID dogs, labels for crates, etc.

Why?

Tuesday morning we were shipping 11 more pups off to the Spayed Club’s Spay/Neuter Clinic in Sharon Hill for vaccines and altering!

We LOVE the staff at Sharon Hill.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve had about 40 dogs altered through them and every single one has healed up quickly with no complications.  The environment is very c...

The Babies are Here!

MEET ARIEL!
Ariel is a darling pit mix – she’s so loyal and loving that she bonded with her foster mom instantly – a true testament to the fidelity of this breed!

We estimate that she’s about 3 years old.  Ariel was a victim of neglect for her entire puppyhood and young adulthood – her previous ‘family’ left her tied to the end of the chain 24/7 – unspayed, she of course became pregnant.  When a neighbor saw this poor girl (still showing no signs of pregnancy) living outsid...

A Crazy Lady Just Got a Radio Show

January 31, 2010

Blog Talk Radio will be buzzing tomorrow with the premier episode of The Crazy Dog Lady Show.  The title may seem a little funny, but there will be a lot of great information throughout the show.  Nina, the host of the show, has this description for the first show:

Premier episode in which Crazy Dog Lady discusses the similarities between animals and humans. Join me in celebrating the bond people share with their pets as we touch upon health care, obedience training and emergency planning. H...

Getting Started is the Hardest Part.

January 27, 2010

How do you make your first blog post?  For readers, a glimpse at a new blog is akin to your first visit to a new restaurant - if the service isn't good.....you aren't going back. If you don't like this post - I know you aren't going to keep reading - but here's my best shot at it :)

I wanted to write a letter to our wonderful amazing dedicated fosters (and adopters! and donors! and volunteers!) at the start of the New Year.  The letter would have let them know that by working together, ou...
